Coventry bingo club pays £9,000 to OAP after winnings row

A BINGO club has agreed to pay out £9,000 to a pensioner whose winning call was not acknowledged.

Gala Bingo said it would hand over the cash to 70-year old Uda Banks after reviewing audio footage of the game played at Pool Meadow in Coventry city centre two weeks ago.

The Telegraph reported last week how the mother-of-seven and grandmother-of-six, of Lambeth Close in Henley Green, was devastated when the caller failed to stop the game which deprived her of a big win after 40 years as a member.

Mrs Banks said at the time: “I had numbers 83 and 62 and I needed four so I was shocked when it was called.

“I shouted immediately and she looked over but didn’t stop the game.

“Then shortly after she called another number and somebody else won.

“After the game a lot of people that were at the bingo came over to me and said you won, collect your prize. After the game I complained to the manager.”

A spokesman for Gala Bingo said the company decided to honour the win after an internal investigation.
