Remote Gambling Association endorses online gaming initiative

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC — (PRESS RELEASE) — Remote Gambling Association (RGA), which represents the largest global remote gambling companies, today endorsed the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative for its efforts to promote the freedom of individuals to gamble online with the proper safeguards to protect consumers and ensure the integrity of financial transactions.

“RGA endorses the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative in its mission to support regulated Internet gambling and protect consumers betting online,” said Clive Hawkswood, Chief Executive. “Internet gambling is capable of control in order to prevent it from being used as a source of crime. Only through a regulatory framework as championed by the Initiative, will the proper protections be in place to guard against money laundering, fraud and identity theft.” The RGA provides the industry with a single voice on all the issues of importance to regulators, legislators, and key decision makers.

“RGA’s endorsement is a significant indication of the importance of mobilizing support for regulated Internet gambling, and we are delighted they are joining our effort,” said Jeffrey Sandman, spokesman for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling Initiative. “We encourage supporters to visit Safeandsecureig.org to urge Members of Congress to cosponsor legislation to regulate Internet gambling thereby protecting consumers and capturing billions in revenue that is needed for critical government programs.”

RGA recently offered further evidence to Members of Congress in testimony to the House Committee on Financial Services that a regulatory framework for Internet gambling would protect consumers and provide integrity to Internet gambling financial transactions. Existing systems and technology have proven successful in combating underage and compulsive gambling and protecting Internet gambling transactions according to the RGA.

RGA encourages social responsibility within the betting and gaming industry both for the benefit of operators and the general public through various means including support for charities and initiatives to help those who have gambling problems.

Bingo fan Keith Clare and his girlfriend Julie Midgley are celebrating a double jackpot . . . they each won £1,000 on the same afternoon.

Keith, aged 42, and Julie, aged 40, got lucky when they sat down at the Mecca Bingo in Ashburner Street, Bolton, last Saturday.

It was not long before Keith, a welder from Deane, got a full house and shouted out.

advertisementHe was still counting his winnings when girlfriend Julie struck gold with a full house of her own.

An ecstatic Keith said: “I couldn’t believe it . . . I was celebrating, then in the next game I realised Julie needed just one number. It was 24 – and it came up. She shouted out and we had won again!

“The bingo caller came over to congratulate us and told us it had never happened before. Everyone around us was really nice.”

Then to top it all Keith’s mother, Marie, from Hindley, scooped a £300 prize. Keith and Julie, who works in a sandwich shop in Tonge Moor Road, only started playing Bingo a few weeks ago. It was the first time they had played the game on a Saturday, with their usual bingo trips taking place during the week. The happy couple have spent their winnings by paying for a week’s holiday in Portugal.

Osborne family featured in online slot machine

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Ozzy Osbourne and his unique family are getting ready to conquer the online slots world. The Osbournes will be featured in a unique series of graphic rich video slots planned for launch later this year, according to a licensing deal signed by Microgaming.

The Osbournes skyrocketed into the public consciousness in 2002, when they became the subject of an MTV reality series. The Emmy award-winning show, The Osbournes, was the most-viewed series ever on MTV. Since the end of its run in March 2005, all members of the family have proceeded to enjoy triumphant careers in music or television.

“I can honestly say that when I came into this business I would never have believed that one day we would be welcoming Ozzy Osbourne and his family into the fold, but this goes to show how far we have come,” said Microgaming CEO Roger Raatgever. “Online gaming is well and truly part of the entertainment mix and we can’t wait to launch our cutting edge Osbourne video slot to players later this year.”

Microgaming powers many of the world’s most profitable online casinos and has been the industry leader in innovative gaming solutions.

If you look at the way Hitman and Lara Croft have been developed, it should give you an idea of what to expect with the Osbourne slots, said Stuart Hehir, director of Microgaming’s public relations firm, Chameleon PR.

“We promise it will be a game to remember,” Raatgever said.

Bluff Europe Names London ‘Number One Poker City in Europe’

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

June 20, 2007 (London, UK) – London has been named the hottest poker destination in Europe by poker magazine Bluff Europe. The top poker publication praised London for the diversity of games available, from home games to high profile tournaments, as well as for the enthusiasm with which the capital has embraced the game.

London has 24 casinos, not to mention countless cardrooms dotted around the city, as well as exciting new casino, The Empire in Leicester Square, that opened with a star-studded bash just last month. The WSOP Europe – a European version of the World Series of Poker is set to come to London this autumn – further cements the city’s reputation as the premier poker destination in Europe. The city will host the London leg of the European Poker Tour and the Grosvenor Poker Tour Grand Final as one of the biggest tournaments in Europe.

Furthermore, the UK government’s proactive gaming reform will benefit poker in the UK and will regulate online-poker — the most popular medium for the game.

“London is super hot right now – it’s really making a name for itself on the poker scene. While other cities like Dublin and Barcelona are benefiting from the growth of poker, its London that is getting the greatest number of big money tournaments. With the WSOP kicking off its European contests here, London is becoming a key destination on the world poker calendar – it’s like Europe’s Las Vegas,” said Bluff Europe editor-in-chief, Michael Caselli.

Other cities ranked for services to poker were Dublin, Tallinn, Barcelona and Monte Carlo respectively.
