Woman celebrates £201,000 bingo jackpot

A 52-YEAR-OLD woman who has been playing bingo for 25 years hit the jackpt when she scooped £201,000 at the Mecca Club in Harlow, The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was playing at the Terminus Street club with her husband when good fortune struck.

She won the National Bingo Game prize of £200,000 plus the regional prize of £1,505 and the house prize of £195, after completing a full house in 45 numbers.

She said: “My husband leapt out of his seat and cried when he realised I had won, but I just sat there in disbelief. It was such a shock. I’d been waiting for just one number, 49, after only 28 calls, so it was a long wait!”

The mother-of-two from Hatfield, who works as a mailing house supervisor, has been a member of the Mecca Club for 13 years and plays there once every three weeks.

She said: “I’ll be paying for my youngest daughter to go on a cruise for her 21st birthday and I’ll be giving some money to my oldest daughter. My husband and I are also hoping to retire at 60 so the money will be very useful then.”
