Legal Online Poker & Gambling in Spain

Spain, like the UK and Italy, decided that there is much to be gained from regulating online gambling. Last Friday Spain announced that it will allow gaming in regulated locations, specifically including online ones.

The potential revenues are high, especially how legal wagering in Italy alone is close to 30 billion Euros. Now Spain is looking forward to a similar cash flow, that otherwise would be barely accounted for.

Spain’s new law might also shrink illegal betting.

Under the new law, people from Spain now can legally place bets and wager over the phone and online. All bets over 1Euro will be legal to be placed online.

Madrid will issue licenses that last for five years, renewable once all conditions are met.

Licensing will include regulations to prevent the participation of problem gamblers, the underaged and mentally ill people.

Most of the largest Euro online-poker concerns are expected to apply for an official Spanish license.

Mammoth UK Poker Tour Online Qualifiers has Started

With a prize pool of GBP 4 million, this will be the biggest poker series yet seen in Britain
Online qualifiers for the Blue Square & Grosvenor Casino GBP 4 Million UK Poker Tour begin on Saturday 16th December 2006, paving the way for online poker players to win sponsorships to what is likely to be the UK’s biggest ever poker road show.

Online bookmaker Blue Square and Grosvenor Casinos, both part of the Rank Group, announced the UK-only poker tour last month (see previous Online-Casinos.com/InfoPowa report) and said the opening tournaments would take place at the Grosvenor Casino Bolton between 14th January and 17th January next year.
The tour consists of 10 legs, starting in Bolton on January 12th 2007, culminating in the Grand Final in December at the world famous London Grosvenor Victoria Casino. Winners of each leg of the tour will also win a seat at the UK Poker Tour Grand Final to be held at the end of the year.

Each leg of the tour is a GBP 1 000 buy in, with players able to qualify in satellites at Grosvenor Casinos or online at Blue Square Poker. There is a GBP 3 000 buy-in to the Grand Final for non-leg winners. All participating players will have the chance to play for a share of an anticipated GBP 4 million total prize pool across the ten events.

Each leg of the tour will be filmed and broadcast on Channel 4 in the second half of 2007.
